Artist Statement
Mariko Brenner is a creative human living and working outside of Detroit, MI. She earned her BFA in Ceramics from College for Creative Studies in 2014.
After taking a long hiatus, Mariko was inspired to start playing around in fibers again while in therapy from a spinal injury. Currently, Mariko has jumped in feet first to Four-Shaft Weaving on a 50-year-old Macomber Floor Loom, after taking a ten-day weaving intensive on blanket making with Peggy Heart and Jean Hosford at Penland School of Crafts in Western North Carolina. Mariko's art was most recently included in the Microclimates + Environments Show at the Boyer Cambal Building in 2024, as part of Detroit's Month of Design, 2024. Mariko is an active member of Fiber Club Detroit and the Ann Arbor Fiber Guild.
